The Red Road

In the heart of cattle country back dropped by the Bighorn Mountains of Northern Wyoming, runs a little red road. When you follow the road it leads to a new life that we have begun.

In 2007 for my second year wedding anniversary my husband gave me a toolbelt, a Makita drill, and a pair of calfskin workgloves. Thus began a new adventure full of snapping lines, finding my capenter pencil and learning how my husband worked for a living.
My husbands son, who was 6 at the time, and our youngest who was 4 months old, played outside while we finished completing the Gambrel Barn. We completed the workshop/ living area inside the barn in May. Following its completion we moved any unneccasary furnishings from our old house we sold in "town," into storage. Our family moved into the one room living area we designated in the barn by the end of May.  It would be our new nest for the next 6 months while we built our house.

Our only running water was a well pump located in front of the barn. So our facilities included the outhouse, and the galvinized steel bathtub we solar heated, bubbles not included!

Our 1948 Chevy LoadMaster Dumptruck lovingly called, Nellie, hauled the gravel for the road and the driveway.

Our Braeburn apple trees were the first trees we planted before we sited in the house.

Our house site with the poured foundation, and a small hedge of tomatoes growing. The bell seen, is the only survior from my husband's family's ranch.
Our parents stayed in a camper trailer and helped build the house. It went fast once the concrete pad was poured. My husband's father has been a carpenter for most of his life, his wife is very skillful with a Skill saw and a nail gun!

On hot days after working in 90 degrees, we jumped into the new galvinized stock tank. Our swimming pool.

Our boys inside the 16'x16' one room living area inside the barn, which would be later my husband's carpentery shop.  It included the couch, crib, t.v., bed, hutch, refridgerator, two dressers, and a wood stove.

Our last stages before winter and we moved into the house November 12, 2007.

Our house in the spring and fall of 2010. Our house is still a work in progress, but we are comfortable and happy.
